Daniel Reynolds Profile Picture

Dr. Reynolds builds on his experience as a former Catholic high school English teacher to examine how high school students' literacy can be scaffolded both through careful instructional design and responsive interactional scaffolding in discussion. He works with practitioners in three districts and two private schools as well as the the Ohio Department of Education's State Literacy team to translate the latest findings about adolescent literacy to meaningful instructional practice. For practitioners, he has published his work in Voices from the Middle, The Reading Teacher, and Ohio Journal of English Language Arts.

His research focuses on interactional scaffolding and instructional design for adolescent readers. He is particularly interested in working at the intersection of research about classroom discussion, scaffolding, culturally responsive texts, text complexity, and reading/writing integration. For researchers, he and his colleagues have published in Reading Research Quarterly, American Educational Research Journal,听 AERA Open, Education Sciences, and Literacy Research: Theory, Method, and Practice.
