Master of Science in Anesthesia with Case Western Reserve University

°ÅÀÖ´óÈË°æappÔ¼ÅÚ has partnered with the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine to help °ÅÀÖ´óÈË°æappÔ¼ÅÚ graduates pursue careers as anesthesiologist assistants. These highly skilled health professionals implement anesthesia care plans under the direction of licensed anesthesiologists.

Each year, a limited number of qualified °ÅÀÖ´óÈË°æappÔ¼ÅÚ students can gain preferred consideration for admission to CWRU’s . The two-year program trains students extensively in the delivery and maintenance of quality anesthesia care as well as advanced patient monitoring techniques. The program is offered in three locations: Cleveland, Houston, and Washington, D.C.

What is a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant?

A Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) is a highly skilled professional, qualified by advanced education and clinical training, to work cooperatively with an anesthesiologist in developing and implementing the anesthesia care plan.

Under the direction of an anesthesiologist, CAAs may establish patient monitoring devices and intravenous access; assist in the application and interpretation of advanced monitoring techniques; assist in the induction, maintenance and emergence of a patient’s anesthetic; and perform many other important functions.

Applicants must:

  • Be working towards a bachelor’s degree at °ÅÀÖ´óÈË°æappÔ¼ÅÚ;
  • Have completed at least 3 1/2 years, and no fewer than 105 credits of coursework, with an average of 3.25 GPA at °ÅÀÖ´óÈË°æappÔ¼ÅÚ (overall and major) with no grade less than a “B-“;
  • Receive the endorsement of his/her candidacy to the Program by the °ÅÀÖ´óÈË°æappÔ¼ÅÚ Health Professions Advisory Committee;
  • Attain an MCAT score of 493 or higher, or a GREÌýminimum score of 153 in Verbal Reasoning, 156 in Quantitative Reasoning, and 4.0 in Analytical Writing;
  • Complete the Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics, or .

Students must have completed the below-listed prerequisite course with a grade of B- or higher in each course:

  • BL 155-158: Principles of Biology & Labs
  • *BL 230-231: Human Anatomy & Physiology & Lab
  • CH 141- 144: General Chemistry & Labs
  • CH 221-224:ÌýOrganic Chemistry & Labs
  • CH 431 (or 435, 436, 439): Biochemistry
  • MT 135:ÌýCalculus & Analytic Geometry I
  • MT 228/DATA 228: Statistics for Biological Sciences
  • *Human Physiology and Laboratory
  • English with Expository Writing (one semester)
  • PH 125/125L and PH 126/126L: General Physics I & II with Laboratory

*Note: Human Anatomy & Physiology I with laboratory (BL 230/230L), and Human Anatomy & Physiology II with laboratory (BL 231/231L)–one year–may substitute for Human Anatomy and Laboratory (one semester) and Human Physiology and Laboratory (one semester).

  • Complete and provide all the necessary forms and documents required by the program and to CWRU by August 1.
  • Demonstrate an acceptable level of ethical, moral and professional behavior, as determined in CWRU’s sole discretion.
