Associate Professor of Spanish

Biography

Dr. Thornton joined the °ÅÀÖ´óÈË°æappÔ¼ÅÚ faculty in 2010 and since then has taught all levels of language, literature, and culture classes in Spanish.  She specializes in 20th– and 21st– century Latin American Literature and Culture, with a particular interest in Mexico and Central America.  Her research interests include cultural and literary representations of migration and mobility as well as border studies, women writers, and popular culture.  She has published articles in Hispania, Letras Femeninas, Hispanic Journal, and Studies in Latin American Popular Culture.  Dr. Thornton received her BA in Spanish from the University of Kansas, her MA in Latin American Studies from the University of New Mexico, and her PhD in Spanish from the University of Kansas.  She has also spent time abroad in both Spain and Latin America and worked for the U.S. State Department in Mexico from 2000-2002.
